I haven’t posted any trips for awhile. School is keeping me too busy. But today I was asked where my favorite paddle spot was. I am not sure I have a favorite, but she wanted to go canoeing this holiday weekend and was looking for a recommendation.

If you want to paddle or canoe a nice river, I would highly recommend the Silver River. There is so much wild life to see, lots of gators, birds of all kinds, monkeys…yes I said monkeys, wild hogs and since the river is beautiful and clear, you will see lots of fish.  This river is too beautiful to miss.

If the statement “lots of gators’ makes you a bit nervous, I would recommend Homosassa River. Not so many gators, at least I have not seen them in the area we paddle, but lots of Manatees. Just paddle down to the Homasassa Spring State Park. If you sit still long enough one might come over to you and check you out. They are very curious creatures.

If beach is more your style, we were just at Sand Key doing a triathon and the beach is beautiful and the water is gorgeous.  Bring coins for the parking meters and be prepared to walk a little distance to get to the beach.

Whatever you decide to do relax, enjoy, keep your eye on the weather and most of all be safe.

Have a great holiday weekend!
